Editing Date & Time Code for NetObjects Fusion Guestbook

By Eddie Hauser, on Thursday 10 April 2008 06:00:00 PM

We use several different methods for designing websites according to what the customer needs. If the customer wants complete control over the website, we use Joomla, a Content Management System, If the customer wants a website that is more creative and dependent on graphical design I prefer to use NetObjects Fusion. One reason is the components included with the software that act like a Content Management System and allow you to add PHP based tools relatively easily.

Unfortunately, when using the Guestbook Component in NetObjects Fusion, the date and time are automatically included when a new comment is posted. The way to fix this is to edit the .csv file that is generated by the PHP code. You can find this file in the db folder you created on your web hosting server. Open this file using Notepad and you will notice a 10 digit code inserted with each guesbook entry. This number generates the date and time for each Guestbook entry. When experimenting with the numbers, here is what I came up with. For some reason the number 0000000000 = 12/31/1969 07:12:00 pm.

To get a date after that, you will need to add the amount of seconds in a year + seconds in a month + seconds in a day + seconds in an hour + seconds in a minute to get the date you want after January 1, 1969.

Here are some examples:
0000018000 = 01/01/1970 12:01:00 am
0031556820 = 01/01/1971 12:01:00 am
0946707780 = 01/01/2000 01:01:00 am
1104492410 = 01/01/2005 01:01:00 am
1136049336 = 01/01/2006 01:01:00 am
1167606262 = 01/01/2007 01:01:00 am
1199163188 = 01/01/2008 01:01:00 am

I am unsure if these are 100 percent accurate due to some months having 28, 29 or 30 days. Also leap year could affect the outcome, but the concept is here.

Here are the amount of seconds:

31556926 = 1 year
86400 = 1 day
3600 = 1 hour
60 = 1 minute

Add these to the year number you came up with to get these dates:
January 1 = +0
February 1 = +2678400
March 1 = +5184000
April 1 = +7862400
May 1 = +10454400
June 1 = +13132800
July 1 = +15724800
August 1 = +18403200
September 1 = +21081600
October 1 = +23673600
November 1 = +26352000
December 1 = +28944000

I hope this helps anyone that has the same problem I did. Now I can add the old guestbook entries and not lose the dates and times they were originally submitted. It makes the website look like it has been in business for longer than the last update.
